LECTURE: Roman Paintings in the Luxor Temple

Description:The paintings in question are the remains of a frescoed representation of a religious procession of units of the Roman army, cavalry and chariots towards a central niche with images of the deified tetrarchs. In the time of Diocletian, a room in the Luxor temple was converted into a shrine to the cult of the emperors.

Dr. Susan Auth is Curator Emerita at the Newark Museum.  Her publications include Art of Coptic Egypt.  She received her PhD from Bryn Mawr College with her dissertation, The architecture of Alexandria in Egypt as depicted on the Alexandrian bronze coinage of the Roman Imperial period.
