Chapter: Pennsylvania
Presenter: Dr. Jennifer Houser Wegner, University of Pennsylvania
Location: Classroom 2, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology
Cost: Free to the public
Description: Here at the University of Pennsylvania, we are all familiar with Benjamin Franklin -- statesman, inventor, and author. Most of us are probably not so familiar with Onchsheshonqy -- priest of Pre, prisoner, and malcontent. However, both men are credited with collections of proverbs, sayings, or maxims that reflect both an individual point of view, as well as insight into the times in which each man lived. This talk will examine Egyptian wisdom literature, in particular, Demotic wisdom, and offer a comparison between Penn's beloved Ben Franklin and his ancient Egyptian counterparts
