Description: As a result of the Historic Cairo Restoration Project initiated in 1998, the Islamic city, neglected for so long, has been catapulted into the global world of travel and tourism. The pros and cons outlined in this presentation were formed during a five-week visit to 220 monuments in October - November 2007, with an update in January of 2010.
Caroline Williams is the author of Islamic Monuments in Cairo: The Practical Guide. 6th edition. Cairo and New York: The American University in Cairo Press, 2008.
