Description

Members of the Walters Art Museum and the Washington DC Chapter of the American Research Center in Egypt will be visiting the aforementioned museum on Saturday, March 10, between 2:00 and 4:00 pm. We will be given a brief introduction to the museum collections in general followed by tours of at least the Egyptological collections. Visitors will be welcome to explore on their own as well.

Regarding the Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum, it opened a new exhibition space in December 2010, displaying over 1,000 objects from the ancient world. Among the objects currently on view are world-famous Athenian red-figure vases, Latin inscriptions, and ancient American turquoise mosaic plaques. Also on display are a number of Egyptian pieces including relief fragments from Deir el-Bahari, a Ptolemaic mummy (on loan from Goucher College), and nearly 200 objects currently on loan to Johns Hopkins from the Eton College Myers Collection, which features a number of exquisite faience pieces.
