LECTURE: A Newly Discovered Pyramid: The BYU Expedition to Seila

Date: Saturday, July 24, 2010, 1:30 p.m.

Presenter: Dr. Kerry Muhlestein, Brigham Young University

Chapter: Orange County, California

Location: Bowers Museum, Norma Kershaw Auditorium, 2002 N. Main, Santa Ana, California

This lecture is free and open to the public.

Description: Dr. Muhlestein and a team of engineers have used sophisticated GPS equipment to create a map of the Seila Pyramid and a digital reconstruction. They also analyzed the site’s topography. The team found evidence that Seila is a "true" pyramid and may contain internal architecture and burial chambers. The pyramid has a portico on the east side that appears to have been used for ritualistic purposes.
