About the Speaker: Alexandra Woods is associate lecturer in the Department of Ancient History, Faculty of Arts. She studied Egyptology and Ancient History at Macquarie University (2001-2003), and completed an Honours degree in Egyptology (2004) before undertaking doctoral studies at Macquarie (2005-2008) based on analysis of Old Kingdom art. At Macquarie University she now teaches Egyptology with a focus on art history and Old and Middle Kingdom studies. Since 2003

Alexandra has been involved in archaeological fieldwork in Egypt at a number of important sites including Saqqara , Deir el-Gebrawi and Meir. She is currently participating in recording and studying the Teti cemetery and Ptahhotep complex at Saqqara as well as the Old and Middle Kingdom tombs in the cemetery of Meir near Asyut.

In addition to research activities Alexandra has been involved in teaching ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, wall paintings and funerary beliefs as well as units focusing on Egyptian culture and society in the Old Kingdom and First Intermediate Period. The central objectives are to prepare Egyptology for online teaching, beginning with Egyptian Wall Paintings and Introduction to Egyptian Hieroglyphs, and to incorporate Macquarie University 's current research and archaeological fieldwork in to the teaching of each unit.
