Lecture Information: 

Dr. Sameh Iskander will present the latest archaeological work and research of the New York University- ISAW mission to the temple of Ramesses II in Abydos. The excavations include the discovery of a temple-palace, storerooms, foundation deposits, statues, and unusual animal burials within the temple precinct. These important finds have fundamentally changed our knowledge of the archaeological landscape of Abydos. 

About Sameh Iskander: 

Dr. Iskander’s interest and publications are focused primarily on the history and archaeology of the ancient Egyptian Ramesside period. He is President Emeritus of the American Research Center in Egypt, a Member of the Visiting Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptological Seminar of New York. Sameh’s career as an archaeologist is served well by his training as a civil engineer, having earned a BS in that field from Cairo University and an MS from New York University-Polytechnic Institute.
